Working as a Student Assistant at Department of Economics

At the Department of Economics (ECON), Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Frederiksberg, Denmark we regard it a central task to explain what motivates decision-makers, how economic institutions are — or should be — designed, and whether the interaction between institutional design and motivation leads to an efficient or optimal outcome from society's point of view. Our research is often related to specific challenges facing different organizations.

We are looking for student research assistants for an average of 10 hours per week for a period of 12 months. The position has a large degree of flexibility, including during exam periods. Expected start date is 1 July 2024, or soonest thereafter. You are expected to be able to be present at the department on a regular basis.

Specifics for the positions and your role
The core activity of the student assistants will be compiling and cleaning data, writing code to implement analysis as directed by researchers in our department, produce publication style tables and figures, and support faculty in working with registry and other types of data. You will undertake various tasks, including but not limited to: data gathering and management, statistical programming, documentation, and literature reviews. Some ad-hoc tasks will also be required.

The Person
You will have a good understanding of economics and statistics, e.g. from the pursuit of a related degree. Knowledge of SAS, R, and/or STATA is an advantage. Solid academic grades in your current studies, high fluency in English, an ability to work independently as well as in teams, good organizational skills, and a willingness/enthusiasm to learn new methods will also be important.

Having some or all of the following abilities is an advantage in working on the tasks:

  • Basic knowledge of Matlab or Fortran
  • Fluency in Danish
  • Experience in working with Danish register data

Salary and employment conditions
Employment will be according to the HK-organisationsaftale and Fællesoverenskomsten mellem Finansministeriet og Offentligt Ansatte Organisationer (OAO-S Fællesoverenskomsten (the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Organisations of Public Employees – Denmark (OAO) (OAO-S Collective agreement)).

Salary and pension are determined in regard to HK-overenskomsten and is dependent on previous clerical occupation and level of education.

It is a prerequisite for employment that you are a student enrolled at a Danish institution in higher education or in a professional bachelor programme; and that, at the start date at the latest, you have a physical address in Denmark, a Danish social security number and a Danish bank account.
