BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

Do you want to contribute with new knowledge on potential effects of Vitamin K on the risk of chronic diseases and healthy aging? Do you have competencies within nutritional epidemiology and working with large epidemiological data? If so, you could be the new postdoc in our team.

The Section for Epidemiology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher starting May 1, 2024.

The position

The successful candidate will join the research group on health effects of Vitamin K and other micronutrients and be the project manager of the project ”Health effects of Vitamin K: towards evidence-based nutrition recommendations and prevention”, which received a grant from the Independent Research Fund Denmark. Vitamin K is an essential vitamin for the activation of blood clotting factors and other proteins important to human physiology. There is growing evidence that vitamin K may be important for the prevention of many age-related chronic diseases, however, critical gaps in our knowledge exist. The project aims to characterize the vitamin K content and bioavailability of foods commonly consumed in Denmark to assess dietary intakes more accurately in general population studies. This information will then be used to investigate the potential role of vitamin K for the prevention of chronic diseases; providing the evidence needed for the re-evaluation of recommended intakes of dietary vitamin K. The project brings together an interdisciplinary and international team of researchers, bridging basic science, genetics, and biomarkers with large epidemiological studies linked to the unique Danish registries.

Job responsibilities

  • Project manager of the project ”Health effects of Vitamin K: towards evidence-based nutrition recommendations and prevention” responsible for coordinating the project’s partners and work packages in close collaboration with the investigators
  • Conduct scientific tasks related to the epidemiological project including statistical and epidemiological analyses, writing of scientific articles, and broader communication
  • Supervise younger researchers and be an active part of the research environment
  • Participate in fund raising
  • The candidate will also be involved in other projects within the field of nutritional epidemiology with a special focus on health effects of Vitamin K.
Qualifications

Applicants for this research position should have a degree in human nutrition, epidemiology, public health, biological sciences, or medicine. Applicants must have obtained a PhD degree, or be in the last phase of a PhD study, preferably in nutritional epidemiology.

A successful applicant is experienced in

  • nutritional epidemiology including assessment of dietary intakes of nutrients
  • epidemiological techniques, in working with large and complex datasets, and linkage to Danish nationwide health registries at Statistics Denmark
  • advanced statistical techniques (in Stata, SAS and/or R).
  • publication of scientific results within nutritional epidemiology
  • project management
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills are required, and the candidate is expected to be highly proficient in spoken and written English.

Our group and research

The candidate will join a group of researchers focused on nutritional epidemiology and a particular interest in health effects of micronutrients. The group is an integrated part of the Section for Epidemiology at the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital (currently placed at Frederiksberg hospital). The candidate will interact with researchers from various scientific disciplines (including biostatistics, epidemiology, health promotion and medicine) and actively contribute to the research environment in the section. Working with advanced epidemiological methods and large population-based cohorts, we investigate how nutrition, with a special focus on micronutrients, are related to the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, allergic and respiratory diseases, as well as many other diseases.
