Postdoc in Global Value Chains and Sustainability at the Department of Management, Society and Communication, Copenhagen Business School
MSC is looking for a Postdoc to join the Climate Change and Global Value Chains project, which explores how the garment/textile value chains connecting Europe and Bangladesh are being reconfigured in response to climate change.

MSC brings together scholars from a range of research areas within management, communication and the broader social sciences and humanities, studying organizations in global environments and the interaction and interdependencies of business, society and government. They share a common interest in studying organizations in global environments and the relations of organizations to the wider society. MSC is a significant supplier of research-based teaching to a broad portfolio of programs, which includes undergraduate, graduate and doctoral teaching and supervision as well as executive education in the fields of:

  • Responsible management, leadership and governance
  • Corporate responsibility and sustainability
  • Business and development (with an emphasis on the emerging/growth economies context)
  • Organisational communication (corporate communication, strategic communication, leadership communication, marketing communication, international business communication)
In this position, our new colleague will build on our past and ongoing work to advance knowledge on the interconnections between global value chains and climate in Bangladesh and its wider links to other countries in South Asia. This includes but is not limited to (1) conceptualizing the links between global value chains and climate change; (2) exploring how Bangladesh and other South Asian garment/textile producer nations strategically try to brand themselves as climate friendly producer nations; (3) investigating the drivers and barriers to decarbonization and climate adaptation in the European and Bangladesh garment and textile value chains, and (4) analyzing the links between climate change and global recycling networks in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

  • Corporate sustainability theories
  • The garment and textile industry
  • Qualitative and quantitative methods
The Postdoc is expected to engage with several project related tasks, such as literature synthesis, writing up of empirical studies, undertake fieldwork, and collaborate with practice partners and the scientific community. The position also involves minimal admin tasks related to the research activities, such as planning and organizing mini conferences and workshops.

The Postdoc is a non-tenured position up to a 1-year period with research obligation. To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the research activities of the Department.

Qualifications
1. The applicant must hold a PhD or equivalent in the area of global value chains/global production networks and sustainability. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant having an existing documented record of publications of articles in highly ranked international journals within the research area relevant to the job description.
2. Previous experience in conducting detailed fieldwork in the South Asian garment and textile industries within the broad area of sustainability is a pre-requisite.
3. A university level degree or practical work experience in fashion or textiles is desirable.
4. Working knowledge of NVivo is required.
5. The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Recruitment procedure
