Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a Post Doc Position at the Department of Strategy and Innovation. Expected starting date is 1 January 2024.

The Department of Strategy and Innovation has an emphasis on Strategy and Innovation - as indicated by the name - but there is equal emphasis on Entrepreneurship and International Business. The four areas are the pillars that the department is resting on in its teaching and research activities. The number of staff in the department includes about 45 faculty members (professors, associate professors, tenure track assistant professors), 7 administrative staff members, and 30 members of staff who are hired on temporary contracts as research assistants, post docs or PhD students.

The post doc position is time-limited for 2 years and connected to the research project “The Effects of Science Funding on the Rate and Direction of Science” led by Associate Professor Valentina Tartari and funded by a Sapere Aude grant. The research group also includes a PhD student.

The postdoctoral fellow will join the project with a specific focus on analyzing the effects of funding rejections on researchers’ behaviors. The work will focus on STEM disciplines, and it will be performed using registry data matched with rich bibliometric information. The post doc will work on the questions specified in the research project and will have the opportunity to assist shaping new projects, including finding new sources of data.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a recent PhD graduate with a deep interest in economics and management of science. Strong technical skills in empirical analysis, in addition to a thorough training in the relevant research literature are essential. Previous experience with working with registry-based data and bibliometric data, and basic programming skills are also highly desirable.

Qualifications for the positions:

  • Applicants must have completed a PhD in Economics, Management or related social science discipline before the beginning the fellowship. The submission of the thesis is considered enough even if the defense will take place at a later date. Prior work (including but not limited to dissertation) must involve quantitative methods and working with large datasets.
  • Excellent academic record and work ethic required.
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills required.
  • Enthusiasm for research required. The ideal candidate will be thinking of this position as a platform to build skills towards taking on a research professorship in the future.
  • Willingness to work in a team, both with senior and junior researchers.
  • Willingness to move to and live in Denmark.
  • Very good knowledge of Stata and R.
  • Previous experience with bibliometric data is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with registry-based data is desirable.

If you have additional enquiries, you are also welcome to contact Associate Professor Valentina Tartari at vt.si@cbs.dk.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organization.
