The Section of Biomolecular Sciences (BMS), Dept. of Biology, University of Copenhagen, is recruiting a laboratory manager or laboratory technician starting 1 August 2023 - subject to negotiation.



Description of the position

The appointed candidate will be an important part of the research and teaching activities at the BMS, where you will join a collaborative and helpful team that values your ideas and input. You will plan and conduct experiments both independently and in collaboration with principal investigators, postdocs, and students in the section. You will also be responsible for training new students and employees, and for conducting lab organizational tasks, including the practical preparation of lab courses. Other tasks will include performing maintenance of equipment and infrastructure and help push the efforts to run our labs in a more sustainable and efficient manner. While your work will involve standard tasks, it will be multi-faceted with plenty of possibilities to develop professionally as well as personally.



Qualifications
We are looking for a motivated candidate, who thrives in a dynamic and informal research and teaching environment. You must have a degree as a laboratory technician, or a university degree in biochemistry, biology, or a related field. Hands-on experience within one or more of the following areas is a distinct advantage: protein expression and purification (i.e., different chromatography methods), as well as standard techniques in protein characterization, animal cell culture and molecular biology. Experience in generating or analyzing DNA sequencing data is also an advantage. Fluency in both written and spoken Danish and English is a strong benefit. The most important personal qualifications are good communication and collaboration skills, flexibility, a curious mindset, and the ability to work independently in an organized manner.

The Section of Biomolecular Sciences
The successful candidate will join the Section for Biomolecular Sciences (https://www1.bio.ku.dk/english/research/bms/

The section currently hosts 10 research groups, and our research is focused on a range of topics at the interface between cell biology and biophysics and with emphasis on molecular, computational, and structural biology. The section is characterized by a highly collaborative work environment with numerous joint projects and shared research grants.

We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a vibrant and international research environment. BMS is housed at the Copenhagen Biocenter, where we have modern laboratory facilities and state-of-the-art instrumentation for protein expression, purification, characterization, and structure determination by NMR spectrometry as well as animal cell culture.



Terms of salary and employment
If you are a skilled laboratory technician, the employment will be made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state. You will be employed as a laboratory technician at salary grade 5 or 6 (depending on your background), and the tasks and responsibilities may be adjusted correspondingly. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.

If you have a university degree, the employment and salary will be made in accordance with the

Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Academics (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Employment will be as academic officer. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
