dato

Do you want to lead an internationally renowned academic department at the forefront of digital transformation? Are you excited about building an inclusive and collaborative academic environment that bridges cutting-edge research with societal impact? If so, Copenhagen Business School invites you to apply for the position of Head of the Department of Digitalization, (DIGI) commencing on 15 April 2024.

DIGI plays a crucial role in contributing to CBS' strategic mission of “Transforming Society with Business”. DIGI’s contribution and focus is within the field of Digital Transformation, studying the complex interrelations between people, data, and technology. Its work spans theoretical development, empirical studies and practical applications, shaping how business and societies navigate the digital age. DIGI’s research is organised around several key themes, including:

  • Digital Transformation
  • Information Systems
  • Data Science

The department is committed to producing high-impact research published in top-tier journals, while also engaging with practitioners, policymakers, and the public through various channels. Over the years DIGI has been successful in securing external funding, which has enhanced its ability to create societal impact and deepen collaborations outside academia. This positive development is expected to continue. DIGI also plays a central role in CBS’s research-based teaching, contributing to a variety of programmes under CBS’ matrix structure. This means DIGI provides courses and expertise across study programmes rather than owning specific programmes. The department also offers Ph.D.-education, aiming to nurture the next generation of scholars in digitalization.

As Head of DIGI, you will be instrumental in promoting CBS’s vision and strategy. You will:
  • Lead the Department: Oversee the development and execution of research, teaching, and engagement strategies aligned with CBS’s broader ambitions.
  • Ensure inclusive environment: Recruit, retain and encourage diverse talent and shape the academic community in a more gender-balanced and inclusive direction.
  • Foster Academic Excellence: Support faculty in producing world-class research and ensure high-quality, research-based teaching across CBS programmes.
  • Promote Collaboration: Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within CBS and enhance partnerships with external stakeholders.
  • Ensure Financial Sustainability: Expand external funding activities and align them with DIGI’s research goals and societal mission.

As the Head of Department, you will not only lead the department but also be an important part of CBS' strategic leadership. Heads of departments at CBS participate actively in shaping CBS’ strategic direction and central institutional procedures and policies in close collaboration with CBS Senior Management. This includes implementing upcoming reforms in higher education and enhancing collaboration across CBS departments.

The Department comprises approximately 50 faculty members, along with 15 PhD students and 5 administrative staff. In addition, it benefits from the insights of around 40 external lecturers. The environment is international with representation of more than 10 different nationalities, and both Danish and English are equally accepted as working languages.

To be considered for the position of Head of Department, you must be a recognized researcher at least at the associate professor level within one of the Department's fields. For a detailed description of the job and the desired competences, please refer to the Job and competence description.

The CBS strategy can be found here, and you can read more about the department here.

At Copenhagen Business School, we believe that diversity strengthens our community. And so, we welcome applications from all qualified candidates who share our desire for excellence and our commitment to promoting positive change through business. CBS encourages you to apply, even if you do not meet all the listed qualifications or possess extensive experience in every area mentioned.

Recruitment process

An appointment committee chaired by the Deputy President will review and interview a selection of qualified candidates.

One of CBS’ strategic goals is the promotion of diversity, which is why a number of efforts have been made to facilitate a process that aids in reducing potential biases during recruitment. We therefore encourage applicants not to include photos or more personal information than absolutely necessary in the application.

To minimize bias in the selection process applicants invited for interviews will not undergo an interview with the entire appointment committee in the first round but will be interviewed by each individual committee member through short online interviews.

Job interviews are expected to take place early March 2025 (round 1 – online) and late March 2025 (round 2 – physical). Tests will be administered between rounds 1 and 2, and interviews will be conducted in English.

Terms of employment

The employment will take place as a fixed-term employment for a period of 3-6 years with possibility for extension for up to 3 years.

The employment will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and member organizations of the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for employees in the Danish state sector (the “AC collective agreement”), including the Circular on Protocol to the collective agreement regarding Heads of Departments and Deans at the Universities and the Circular on fixed-term employment.

The salary consists of a base salary of DKK 49,628.67 per month, a fixed-term allowance, pension contribution and possibly a qualifications-related allowance.

In relation to the remuneration of Heads of Departments, the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science has set a ceiling for the annual fixed salary, including pension contribution, at DKK 824,582 per year (salary level as of March 2012 – in the current salary level, this corresponds to DKK 1,012,641).
