The Department of Public Health at University of Copenhagen, Denmark offers a postdoctoral fellowship position in biostatistics with special focus on methods development for efficient targeted nonparametric inference for heterogeneous causal effects. The anticipated hiring date is October 15, 2023, or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job Description
We invite highly qualified, thorough and motivated applicants to apply for the position. The postdoc will engage in a collaboration that aims to study the intra- and intergenerational health and labour market implications and costs of divorce among families in Denmark. The postdoc will develop novel statistical methods and apply these to register and RCT data to investigate heterogeneity in effects of divorces and investigate whether subgroups are especially adversely affected by divorce. Specifically, the project aims to develop methods for inference on key features of the heterogeneous effects, to estimate characteristics and differences of the most and least impacted groups, and to data-adaptively identify key drivers of treatment effect heterogeneity. The successful candidate will be responsible for methods development, designing proof of concept simulation studies and carrying out the data analyses. The Postdoc is encouraged and expected to drive the ideas and solutions within these topics.

The specific tasks of the position will include:

  • development and application of methods for efficient and targeted estimation of lower-dimensional features of the conditional average treatment effect in observational and randomized data.
  • publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • presentation of findings at professional meetings.
The postdoctoral fellow will also be encouraged and mentored to develop new proposals and research initiatives to support additional research. Over the course of the position, the postdoc will participate in the daily duties of the Department, such as teaching at either the graduate or undergraduate level.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Statistics/Biostatistics, or similar disciplines. Candidates must have strong skills in theoretical methods development. Experience and interest in data analysis, register data and programming (e.g., in R) is further highly desirable. In addition, candidates should have strong English, scientific writing, and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to work independently, effectively, and collaboratively.

About us
The Section of Biostatistics is a leading European center for causal inference and semiparametric efficiency theory. The section is further world-known for its contributions in event history analysis. The Postdoc will be fully integrated into the Section of Biostatistics, and the position presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with experts in the field and further develop skills and knowledge.
